Republican Union (Puerto Rico)
- This is about the political party in Puerto Rico; the Republican Union in Spain is covered separately.
The Republican Union (Spanish: Unión Republicana) was a pro-statehood political party in Puerto Rico.
Founding
The Republican Union was founded in 1932 from the merging of the Pure Republican Party and the conservative wing of the Alianza. Together with the Socialist Party, it was part of an electoral alliance known as Coalición.
Victories
Coalición governed Puerto Rico from 1932 to 1940.
Today
The modern descendant of the Republican Union is the New Progressive Party (PNP). Santos P. Amadeo, Celestino Iriarte Miró, Rafael Martínez Nadal, Bolívar Pagán, and Miguel A. García Méndez were senators from the party.
