Reproduction of Croatian currency
The reproduction of Croatian currency is regulated by the Croatian National Bank.
Rules
The Bank issued an act regarding this matter on February 28, 2002. The decisions most relevant to reproductions of Croatian banknotes are listed in Article 10, titled Reproduction, which states the following:
- 1. The Croatian National Bank owns the copyright on banknotes it publishes.
- 2. The Croatian National Bank allows reproduction of banknotes it has published in the following cases:
- a) for photographs, drawings, pictures, films, and generally any work for which the banknote itself or its reproduction does not hold central meaning and which does not contain a magnified version of the banknote's design;
- b) for the reproduction of banknotes specified in paragraph 1 of this article, whose length or width is increased to more than 125 percent [of its original size] or decreased to less than 75 percent [of its original size], regardless which medium is used for reproduction.
- 3. The Croatian National Bank must [explicitly] approve any other way of reproduction.
- 4. The approval for reproductions which meet the conditions described in paragraphs 1 and 2 may be withdrawn in case of violation of unalienable moral rights of the authors of the banknotes' design.
Notes
The title of the document is: "Decision regarding handling of banknotes and coins of kuna and lipa unsuitable for usage", but Article 10 seems to refer to all banknotes that the Croatian National Bank has published, not only kuna and lipa. There is no other document regarding reproduction of Croatian currency and there is no specific mention of "unsuitability for usage" in this article. There is no separate document resolving the status of coins so it is to be assumed that the word "banknote" (in original: novĨanice) includes coins too.
