Red House Academy is an academy secondary school for ages 11–16 located in Hylton Red House, Sunderland, England.
In July 2009, the former, Hylton Red House School was closed in preparation for the transition of its staff and students to the newly built Red House Academy - an Academy backed by the Leighton Group, hoping to provide a "balanced curriculum", allowing its students to "pursue their own ambitions" in "state-of-the-art buildings". The principal is Dr. Thérèse Quincey, who was the headteacher of Hylton Red House School for its final years, under whose leadership the school was removed from special measures by Ofsted and given grades satisfactory to good, and in a later report deemed excellent, and having improved drastically in the past few years. The School continues to build on its achievement with over a 25% of 2010 leavers receiving 5 or more GCSEs.
Since opening the school has introduced new activities to the community. Including a chance to learn a musical instrument, dance, football and other sports and activities.[1][2]
