Rebecca Marie Stirm (born February 9, 1993) is an internationally renowned fashion designer from Belize. In 2012, she represented Belize in the prestigious "Mission Catwalk" which features top designers from around the Caribbean.[1] She designs women's wear and handbags using locally made products under the signature brand of "Twig and Pearl", formerly "Rebecca Stirm Clothing".
Early life and education
Rebecca began sewing by hand at the early age of 11.[2] She began exploring the way her old clothes were sewn, cutting them apart to see how they were made, and guiding herself in making new pieces for herself. Seeing great potential, her parents got her her first sewing machine.
Achievements and works
Rebecca held her first fashion show in Belize in 2009.[3] Her collection consisted of day dresses and cocktail dresses. She then held her very first runway show that summer where she received her first set of dress orders from that collection.
After hosting a second runway show in Belize, to raise funds to go to study, Rebecca moved to Vancouver for a couple months to study fashion design and marketing.
Shortly after returning home to Belize, from a semester of studies, Rebecca was accepted as part of 20 contestants to compete on the reality TV show "Mission Catwalk" in Jamaica.[4] Having won 4 out of 12 challenges on the show, Rebecca finished the season as the second runner up.[5]
Rebecca continued showcasing her work locally and ended up going back to Jamaica in 2013 to showcase her "Pfuma Ye Nyika" collection on the runway at the Wyndham Wedding Spectacular.[6]
In 2014, Rebecca flew to London to represent Belize at the Splendours of the Common Wealth charity event to raise money for the CCLEF charity foundation.[7]
Shortly after returning from London, Rebecca begun working towards launching her Handbag line, TWIG & PEARL.
TWIG & PEARL Brand
In December of 2015 Rebecca Launched her handbag line TWIG & PEARL.
Her first collection consisted of a small selection of minimally-designed handbags made from locally sourced Belizean leather and hand-printed textiles. Since the launch of the brand, Rebecca has grown TWIG & PEARL into an e-commerce brand, offering artisan-made handbags, jewelry, and clothing - all handmade from a minimum of 75% natural materials.
She continues to work as Owner & Creative director for TWIG & PEARL , designing collections of Handbags, and Photographing/writing for TWIG & PEARL Stories.
