Rayleigh Medal and Prize
The Rayleigh Medal and Prize is an award which has been made biennially in odd-numbered years since 2008 by the Institute of Physics; "for distinguished research in theoretical, mathematical or computational physics". It is named after John Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh and comprises a medal and a prize of £1000. [1]
It should not be confused with the medal of the same name awarded by the Institute of Acoustics.

- 2013: Edmund Copeland, for his work on particle/string cosmology
- 2011: Arkady Tseytlin, for his contributions to the understanding of string theory
- 2009: Robin Ball, for his outstanding contributions to the understanding of diverse complex phenomena associated with growth processes and pattern formation
- 2008: John Chalker, for important original and innovative contributions to solid-state physics
