Rang Avadhoot, born Pandurang Vitthalapanta Valame, (21 November 1898-19 November 1968) was a saint-poet belonging to Datta-panth (Gurucharita tradition of Dattatreya) of Hinduism. He was involved in social and political issues before accepting asceticism in 1923.[1] He is credited for expansion of Datta-panth in Gujarat state of India.[2]
Life
He played an important role in spreading Datta-panth (path shown by Lord Dattatreya) in Gujarat, India. His Ashram (hermitage) is located at Nareshwar, Gujarat,India on the bank of holy river Narmada.
Lord Vitthala of pandharpura took birth in the form of Panduranga after appearing repeatedly in the dreams of his father. With a bright student career joined Indian Independence movement. Snataka (Graduate)- served for a short period as a teacher – participated actively in social activities -abandoned all these and went to Nareswar on the bank of the Holy River Narmada for penance in the year 1925 and lived in tune with Infinity since then.
His holy Mother Ma Rukmamba also stayed with him. He guided truthseekers, inspired many for social and religious activities. Organised a Rifle Camp at Nareshwar. Contributed profoundly with prolific writings in Gujarati, Sanskrit, Hindi and English languages. Alleviated miseries of all types – physical, mental, spiritual – by organising special Surgical and Medical camps and though Dava (Ayurvedic Medicines) as well as by his Spiritual powers of Duva (Benediction).
He has given auspicious mantra to the world . "parspar devo bhav" which means to see god in every one.whatever best is take it. Whatever bad is leave it.always positive where ever you are. He has also given mantra of "shawase shawase datt Nam smaratman"which means take name of loard datt in every breath in &breath out. Which helps you to realise loard datt is with you. It also helps to progress your spirituality and inner joy. He has also written bhajns named avdhooti ananda . In which he describes about spiritual world .It helps to release stress and take us near to god .
He laid stress on Indian culture through practice rather than preaching. Adopted synthetic modern approach to the mundane problems of devotees. Was Averse to Praise, Press, Publicity, Pravachan (Lecturing) and Paisa (Money). Accepted no gifts in cash or kind. Left the world bodily on 19-11-1968 (Kartika Vad 30) at Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India on the bank of the Holy River Ganges. The body was brought to Nareshwar and cremated on November 21, 1968.
Millions of devotees and followers worship him as an incarnation of Dattatreya.
Works
He composed Datta Bavani, a 52 stanza poem dedicated to Dattatreya.
