Quinteto Villa-Lobos
Quinteto Villa-Lobos is a Brazilian wind quintet, founded in 1962 with the intention of popularising Brazilian chamber music. Bringing together instrumentalists that are active as soloists in Brazil and internationally, the Quinteto Villa-Lobos includes Rubem Schuenck (flute), Luis Carlos Justi (oboe), Paulo Sergio Santos (clarinet), Philip Doyle (horn) and Aloysio Fagerlande (bassoon).
Quinteto Villa-Lobos has already played in most of the Brazilian cities and has also opened the commemorations of the Villa-Lobos year in Paris, in Unesco, in 1987. In July 2010, the ensemble played with Egberto Gismonti in "Tocar la Vida" festival, in Argentina.
In September 2001, the ensemble received the Carlos Gomes Award, provided by the São Paulo state government and, in its first national version, as the best Brazilian chamber group. In 2009, the group received again the same Award.
In March 2002, the quintet was honored by its 40 years with a series of concerts entitled "Quinteto Villa-Lobos – 40 years of Brazilian Music", in the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro. In 2002, it participated in the Projeto Sonora Brasil – SESC, playing in 32 Brazilian cities.
In 2006, it was one of the winners of the project "Concert Music Circulation", provided by CEMUS-Funarte and in the same year the quintet played in the "Culture Cup" in Berlin, Germany.
The group participated of the project "Oi apresenta", in 2008.
In 2009, the quintet played in several African countries and also in a festival in honoring Villa-Lobos in the Radio-France, Paris.
The ensemble completed 50 years in 2012, when they celebrated the anniversary with the launch of a DVD and a blu-ray, in a concert series in the Rio de Janeiro cityThe Quinteto Villa-Lobos founders are Celso Woltzenlogel, Paolo Nardi, Wilfried Berk, Carlos Gomes de Oliveira, and Airton Lima Barbosa.
