Queen Dugu (Chinese: 独孤皇后) is an upcoming Chinese television series starring Joe Chen and Chen Xiao.^[1]^[2] It is about the love story between Dugu Qieluo and Yang Jian, and how they work together to establish the Sui Dynasty.^[3]

Synopsis

After founding the Sui Dynasty, Yang Jian and Dugu Qieluo initiated several economic, agricultural and political reforms that enabled the dynasty to enter a new golden age. Yang Jian stayed by Dugu Qieluo's side faithfully till her death, fulfilling the promise they made when they were teens.

Production

Due to the success of Nirvana in Fire (2015), a female counterpart of the series is created. Queen Dugu, which took three years of pre-production by Zhejiang Huace Film & TV, aims to showcase a female character as the story's main machiavellian.^[4]
Filming began on 13 March 2017 and wrapped up in June 2017.^[3]^[5]
The official poster was unveiled at the 22nd Shanghai Television Festival.
