Pritam Singh is an Indian politician who is the current President of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (Uttarakhand PCC).[1][2][3] He is a four term Member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly.[4][5] During the Congress government (2002-2007 & 2012-2017) in Uttarakhand he had served as a Cabinet Minister for Home, Rural Development, Food and Civil Supplies, Panchayti Raj and Minor Irrigation in Government of Uttarakhand.He was also elected as a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1993.[6] Singh represents Chakrata (Uttarakhand Assembly constituency).[7] He is a member of the Indian National Congress.[8]
Early life and education
Singh was born in Virnad village in Dehradun district of the Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) on 4 November 1958 in a Rajput family. Pritam Singh is the eldest son of Gulab Singh (Uttar Pradesh politician) who was a member of the Indian National Congress, an eight term Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and also served as minister during the Congress government in Uttar Pradesh. Gulab Singh was elected unopposed to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the year 1985.Pritam Singh is a law graduate and a member of the Bar Council of Uttarakhand.[9] He is married to Anita Singh and has one daughter and one son.
Political Career
- In 1988 elected as a Block Pramukh of Chakrata.
- In 1993 won assembly election and became MLA from Chakrata Constituency in Uttar Pradesh on the Congress ticket.
- In 1993 after winning the election Singh was made the Joint Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee of Uttar Pradesh.
- In 2002 was re-elected as MLA from Chakrata Constituency in Uttarakhand on the Congress ticket.
- In 2002 after winning the election Singh was made Cabinet Minister for Panchayti Raj, Rural Engineering, Food and Civil Supplies, Sports and Youth Welfare in the Uttarakhand Government.
- In 2007 was elected third time as MLA from Chakrata Constituency in Uttarakhand on the Congress ticket.
- In 2010 Singh was appointed as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Uttarakhand.
- In 2011 was awarded the Best Legislator award.
- In 2012 was elected fourth time as MLA from Chakrata Constituency in Uttarakhand on the Congress ticket.
- In 2012 after winning the election Singh was made Cabinet Minister for Home, Rural Development, Panchayti Raj, Food and Civil Supplies, Minor Irrigation and Backward Area Development in the Uttarakhand Government.
- In 2017 elected fifth time as MLA from Chakrata Constituency in Uttarakhand on the Congress ticket.
- In 2017 was appointed as the President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Uttarakhand.
