Heinrich Ruzzo, Prince Reuss of Plauen (German: Heinrich Ruzzo, Prinz Reuss von Plauen; 24 May 1950 in Lucerne – 29 October 1999 in Stockholm), known as Prince Ruzzo Reuss for short, was a Swedish-Swiss landscape architect and a prince of the former sovereign House of Reuss, which ruled the principalities of Reuss (now in modern Germany) for almost 800 years. His family branch was the royal family of the Principality of Reuss-Gera until 1918. He was married to former ABBA singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad, who became Frida, Princess Reuss of Plauen, following the marriage.
Biography
Heinrich Ruzzo was the son of Heinrich Enzio Prinz Reuss, Count of Plauen (1922–2000) and a Swedish mother, Baroness Louise Peyron (1918–1989). His father was a member of the German princely House of Reuss. His mother's family, Peyron, immigrated to Sweden from France in 1740, was ennobled in Sweden in 1825, conferred baronial status in 1841 and introduced at the Swedish House of Nobility the following year. Louise Peyron was an artist.
The House of Reuss names all of their male children Heinrich (English: Henry) after the end of the 12th century in honour of Henry VI, Holy Roman Emperor (1190–97), to whom they owed the estates of Weida and Gera. The prince was known by the Italian given name of Ruzzo. He grew up with his grandfather in Rome after his parents divorced, but spent the summers with his mother in Scania. In 1972, his mother remarried nobleman Theodor Stig Jakob Christoffer "Ted" Ankarcrona (1918–1984), owner of the estate Boserup in Scania and Runsa Castle in Uppland.
He was educated in Sweden, where he was a schoolfriend of King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, having attended the same boarding school. Prince Ruzzo and the then-Crown Prince of Sweden enjoyed hunting together.
Later in life, he relocated to Switzerland, where he lived on his family castle in Fribourg. In 1989, his mother died and he inherited her farm in Glumslöv outside Landskrona. He was interested in golf and constructed two golf courses on his properties in Switzerland and Lundsberg, Sweden.
