The President of Artsakh is the head of state of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh.
In constitutional referendum held in 2017, citizens voted in favor of transferring Artsakh into a Presidential republic. The incumbent President Bako Sahakyan's term will end in September 2017. In July 2017 the National Assembly will elect the President for the next three years until the next general election which will be held in 2020.
