Praia Grande (Portuguese meaning "large beach") is a large beach on the northeast coast of the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. It is 1.5 km northwest of the village Calhau and is southwest of a larger bay. Beach sands lie next to volcanic rocks of nearby Monte Calhau.

Praia Grande has a rock formation consisting a collapsed flank, a depression 10-12 kilometers in diameter, its a it around 4.5 to 3.1 million years old and consists of nephelinitic lafva flows associated with carbonatite, foidite and phonolitic rocks. It is next to the Monte Verde formation.[1]

Until the 1911 Orthography Reform made by Portugal which removed the y and replaced with an i, it was spelt as Praya Grande.[2]
