The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain was created in December 2011 by Royal Decree.[2]

Since 2015, the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport is Íñigo Méndez de Vigo y Montojo.

It is made up of the previous ministries of Education, Culture and incorporates the Higher Council for Sport, which had previously reported to the Ministry of the Presidency.

Structure

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, under the superior management of the department's principal, carries out the responsibilities that legally belong to it via the superior and executive bodies:

The Sports Superior Council is an autonomous body assigned to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, and its president has the status of Secretary of State.

As a body of political and technical support to the Minister it has a Cabinet, with the level of General Management.

Are advisory and/or participation college bodies of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport the following ones:

The Institute of Spain, the Royal Academies and the academies of the national area are administratively related to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

Assignation of Public Organisms

Are assigned to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport the following autonomous organisms:

  1. National Library.
  2. Music and Dramatic Arts National Institute.
  3. Audiovisual Arts and Cinematography Institute.

The Prado National Museum and the Queen Sofia Art Centre National Museum, which are governed by their own laws, are assigned to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport through the Secretary of State of Culture. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport holds the presidency of these organisms.

The Anti-Doping State Agency is assigned to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport through the Sports Superior Council.
