State Road 716 (SR 716), locally known as Port St. Lucie Boulevard or "PSL" Boulevard, is a 4.355 miles (7.009 km) long east–west route in Port St. Lucie, Florida, extending from its western terminus is an interchange with Florida's Turnpike (SR 91) to an intersection with U.S. Route 1 (SR 5), its eastern terminus.
Route description
State Road 716 begins at an interchange with Florida's Turnpike in Port St. Lucie, running east, retaining its status as a commercial street throughout the length of the state road designation, although the road is close to residential developments. At the middle, SR 716 crosses over a pair of bridges over North Fork of the St. Lucie River, the only non commercial section of the road. Port St. Lucie Boulevard continues east through more commercial development, finally ending at US 1.[2]
History
Originally, the route of SR 716 extended westward from US 1 to Interstate 95 along Port St. Lucie Boulevard and Gatlin Boulevard (formerly Savage Boulevard). As recently as 2000, a mileage sign on I-95 heading north after the interchange with Martin Highway (SR 714) listed "SR 716" as the next exit; it has since been covered over and now reads "Gatlin Blvd./Tradition Pkwy.". As of 2006, many current editions of commercially-prepared road maps incorrectly show SR 716 with its original alignment. SR 716 signage can be found west of the interchange with the Turnpike.
Future
Work has been completed to extend Port St. Lucie Boulevard southwest into Martin County to Martin Highway (SR 714) via an extension of Citrus Boulevard north from its terminus with Martin Highway. Currently, Citrus Boulevard south of Martin Highway is signed as County Road 76A, leaving the stretch between Martin Highway and the Turnpike undesignated as a state or county road.
Major intersections
The entire route is in Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie County.
