Birlik (Unity People's Movement) is a now banned political party in Uzbekistan, formed in September 1989 by computer science professor Abdurahim Polat and former Soviet Union Member of Parliament Pulat Akhun.[1] It is Uzbekistan's first democratic opposition organization. They are the founders of Harakat, an Uzbek political/human rights journal.
