Alfonso "Poncho" Nevárez. is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, serving since 2013. He won the seat after longtime incumbent Pete Gallego gave it up to make a successful run for the United States House of Representatives. In May 2017, fellow state representative Matt Rinaldi called Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers on protesters.[1] He claims that Nevárez threatened his life during the incident; Rinaldi threatened his life during the incident.[2]
Personal life
Born in Bexar County, Texas, he is the son of Alfonso Nevarez Sr. and Guillermina Castillon.[3] Nevárez is the first member of his family to graduate from college.[4]
