Picture This are an Irish pop rock duo based in County Kildare, Ireland.
Biography
Picture This originate from Athy, County Kildare. The duo consists of childhood friends, Ryan Hennessy (vocals), Jimmy Rainsford (drums) The duo lived in the same town and attended the same school but only chose to record music in late 2015. Rainsford had previously toured with Ryan Sheridan, whilst Hennessy had been a member of another local band.[1]
2015–present, number one EP
In October 2015, Ryan Hennessy recorded a sample of the song "Take My Hand" on his iPhone, which he and Rainsford later recorded in studio. The video was uploaded to Facebook and Youtube and has amassed over 1.2 million views across all platforms. The duos debut gig was to be played in the Grand Social venue in Dublin, which they sold out in under 30 minutes. To meet the demand, the gig was moved to The Academy, which has a capacity of 850 people. The duo became the first act to sell out the venue for their debut gig.
The duo announced a twenty-date tour of Ireland in Spring 2016. The tour began in Leixlip on June 4 and will culminate with three dates at the Olympia, a 1,600 capacity venue in Dublin on 1-3 November. As of July 22, 2016 tickets for sixteen of the shows have sold out, including two dates at the Olympia. After relocating to a different venue, band ‘Picture This’ managed to sell out at The Academy in Dublin for their debut gig on April 3rd, making them the first band ever to achieve this.The band later announced that they would be playing a third and final date at the Olympia on 3 November 2016.[2]
In July, the band announced that they would be releasing their debut EP on 12 August. It is called Picture This EP and the track list will feature five original songs including Take My Hand.
The EP debuted at number-one on the Irish Albums Chart for an hour the week ending 18 August 2016.[3]
Picture This Headlined the Longitude Festival in July 2017 and announced their upcoming gig in the 3Arena on Stage. 12 months previously, the members of the band were struggling to get tickets to attend the same festival as mere concert goers. Following this announcement, the one night in the three Arena scheduled for the 7th November sold out within 3 minutes. This took many spectators by surprise as the band have yet to release an album. Picture this have since added a second date of the 8th November in the 3 Arena.
