Peter Murray (art historian)

Peter John Murray (London, 1920 – 1992, Farnborough, Warwickshire)[1] was a Professor of History of Art at Birkbeck College, London, from 1967,[2] succeeding Nikolaus Pevsner. He retired in 1980 and was succeeded by John Steer.[1]

Together with his wife Linda Murray (née Bramley), Peter wrote key primers about Italian Renaissance art that have been used by generations of students. Following Peter's death, The Guardian obituary called them a "diptych of art historians". Linda Murray also wrote several books on her own.
