Pearls of Passion is the debut studio album by Swedish pop duo Roxette. It was originally released on cassette and vinyl on 31 October 1986 in Scandinavia and Canada.[1] On 31 October 1997, the album was remastered and re-released on CD. This reissue contained several previously unreleased bonus tracks. It was re-mastered and re-released again in 2009.

Commercial performance

The album was a commercial success in the duo's native country, peaking at number two on the Swedish Albums Chart, but failed to chart internationally.[2] "Neverending Love", "Goodbye to You", "Soul Deep" and "I Call Your Name" were released as singles, with the first three becoming top twenty hits in Sweden.[3] As of 2001, the album has sold 800,000 copies worldwide.[4] Dance Passion, a compilation EP containing seven remixed versions of tracks found on Pearls of Passion, was released in Sweden in 1987.

A non-album single, "It Must Have Been Love (Christmas for the Broken Hearted)", was released in December 1987, and was their second top five hit in Sweden.[3] The song was later re-recorded – with the reference to Christmas changed to a neutral winter reference ("It's a hard Christmas Day" was replaced with "It's a hard winter's day") – and appeared on the soundtrack to the 1990 film Pretty Woman. Re-recorded versions of two songs from the album went on to feature on two later albums released by the band. CD versions of their 1991 album Joyride contained a version of "Soul Deep", while an acoustic version of "So Far Away" was included on their 1992 album Tourism.
