Paul E. Jacobs, Ph.D. (born October 30, 1962) is an American businessman and the current Executive Chairman of Qualcomm.[1]

Family and education

Jacobs is the son of Qualcomm co-founder Irwin M. Jacobs.

He earned a bachelor's in Engineering and Computer Science in 1984, an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986 and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1989 from the University of California, Berkeley.[2][3]

Career

Jacobs has been Executive Chairman of Qualcomm Incorporated since March 2009.[4] He had been the Chief Executive Officer of the company from July 2005 to March 2014, and previous to that date served as the Group President of Qualcomm Wireless and Internet Group from July 2001. Jacobs started with the company as an engineer in the wireless technology development group in 1990.

On December 13, 2013, Qualcomm announced that Jacobs will step down and be replaced by president and COO Steve Mollenkopf as of March 4, 2014.[5]

In 2015 he received the [6] Distinguished Industry Leader Award, and in 2014 received the IEEE Ernst Weber Managerial Leadership Award.[7] His other awards include:[4]
