The Pasar Seni station is a rapid transit station in downtown Kuala Lumpur that is served by Rapid Rail's Kelana Jaya Line and the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line. The station was named after the nearby Central Market (Pasar Seni in Malay). The station is within walking distance to Chinatown, or more commonly known as Petaling Street (茨厂街).

The station first opened on 1 September 1998 as Section One of the Kelana Jaya Line, then known as PUTRA LRT or LRT System 2. It was the terminus for Section One (Pasar Seni to Kelana Jaya), before full services were extended to Terminal PUTRA (Gombak) in June 1999, as Section Two of the PUTRA system. The MRT station opened on 17 July 2017, as part of Phase Two of the MRT SBK line.

Beneath the station, a bus terminal is located there, as well as a Rapid KL office.

The  KA02  Kuala Lumpur station which the KTM Komuter serves, is a 400 m walk away, connected by a pedestrian bridge crossing the Klang River. There are also bus hubs above this station that connects buses from Kuala Lumpur to Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Subang Jaya. The roads and areas surrounding this LRT station serve as important bus terminals.

History

Kelana Jaya LRT station

The Pasar Seni LRT platform.

Opened in 1998 as phase 1 of the PUTRA system, the main entrance to the station is situated along Jalan Hang Kasturi, adjacent to the interchange with Jalan Sultan. Since the demolition of the old Klang Bus Stand or Pasarama Kota in 2012 to make way for the MRT construction, the space in front of the entrance to the LRT station has been remade into a bus terminal for RapidKL, GOKL and KL Hop-on Hop-off buses. In 2013 a new Rapid Bus Customer Service counter opened there, with applications for concession cards available. There is an auxiliary police post on the ground floor, adjacent to the lift.

The station concourse is located one floor above ground, connected to the ground floor by escalators, stairs and a lift. The faregates, ticketing machines and the service counter are all there, as well as a convenience store, a bakery and link bridges to the MRT station and across the Klang River to the KTM station.

MRT station

The MRT station was constructed on the site of the former Klang Bus Stand and the adjacent Plaza Wawasan and UO Shopping Centre, which were all demolished in 2012. The exterior of the station is influenced by the quartz crystals found at Bukit Tabur quartz range in Gombak, Selangor. Reportedly, the theme for the station's interior is The Confluence Between The Two Rivers of Gombak and Klang, which interestingly is located at Masjid Jamek, the station after Pasar Seni on the Kelana Jaya line.[1]

To allocate for the opening of the MRT station in July 2017, the faregates have been moved further out, closer to the ticketing machines, effectively placing the link bridge to the underground MRT station within the paid zone, thus achieving paid zone-to-paid zone integration between the Kelana Jaya line and the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT line. A new service counter, catering to both the Kelana Jaya Line and the MRT SBK Line was also built, replacing the older service counter.
