Partition of Gyeonggi Province

Gyeonggi Province, the most populous province in the South Korea has been the subject of proposal to divide it into two province since 1987.[1]

History of partition movements

20th century

During South Korean presidential election, 1992, Kim Young-sam and Kim Dae-jung made a promise to establish North Gyeonggi Province[2][3]

21st century

In 2014, Council of Gyeonggi Province sponsored partition of Gyeonggi Province[4] However Nam Kyung-pil ,the governor of Gyeonggi Province opposed the partition.[5]
