Pablo Carmine Maffeo Becerra (born 12 July 1997) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Girona FC on loan from English club Manchester City as a right back.

Club career

Born in Sant Joan Despí, Barcelona, Catalonia, Maffeo joined RCD Espanyol's youth setup in 2003, from FC Levante Las Planas. On 7 April 2013, he made his senior debut for the reserves at the age of only 15, coming on as a late substitute in a 1–0 home win agiainst CE Constància for the Segunda División B championship.[2]

Manchester City

On 3 July 2013, Maffeo moved abroad, agreeing to a contract with Manchester City along with fellow compatriot Manu García.[3] He was initially assigned to the under-18s, progressing through the club's Elite Development Squad.

On 29 August 2015, Maffeo was called up by first team manager Manuel Pellegrini for a match against Watford,[4] but remained unused in the 2–0 home win.[5] He would subsequently appear on the bench in a few more occasions, aside from appearing with the under-19s in UEFA Youth League.

Maffeo made his competitive debut for City 24 August 2016, in a UEFA Champions League play-off match, starting in a 1–0 win over Steaua București.[6] His second start came two months later on 26 October, in a 1–0 EFL Cup loss to Manchester United.[7]

Girona (loan)

On 13 January 2016, Maffeo joined Segunda División side Girona FC on loan until June, after signing a new three-year contract with City.[8] He made his professional debut on 7 February, replacing Borja García in a 1–1 home draw against Gimnàstic de Tarragona.

On 27 December it was announced that Maffeo would rejoin Girona for a second loan, from 1 January to the end of the season.[9] On 15 April, Maffeo was sent off in stoppage time against CD Tenerife.[10]

On 31 July 2017, Maffeo rejoined Girona for a third loan spell, with the side now in La Liga.[11]
