OurHarvest is an online grocer and farmers' market that offers pick-up and delivery to the New York Metropolitan area. Nassau County's Executive Edward P. Mangano honored[1] OurHarvest's founders on September 22, 2014 for their innovative business model.
OurHarvest's grocery delivery is through its partnership with Uber and UberRUSH.
History
OurHarvest was founded in April 2014 by Michael Winik and Scott Reich.
Operations
OurHarvest sources its products directly from suppliers, and stores them for short periods in refrigerated trucks for pick-up and delivery.[2]
For pick-up, customers must place their orders in advance, and use transportation to go to their selected pick-up market. The company then places tents and banners at their pick-up locations, which resemble a typical Farmers' market image. For delivery, they use UberRUSH, in order to deliver groceries from the trucks throughout the week to customers. Customers must enter their delivery address and select a delivery time slot window in order to have their order delivered, and can optionally add delivery notes (e.g. "Leave outside front door"). The company uses custom-built software to process orders placed on their website, and have a 2,500-square-foot sorting facility in Hicksville, New York.[3]
Products
As of April 2016, the company provides a variety of over 600 products to its customers directly sourced from local suppliers. These products include seasonal, healthy, kosher, sustainable, gluten-free, organic, grass-fed, grain-finished, and locally grown items — as well as other items in product categories of meat, poultry, seafood, produce, pantry, dairy & eggs, drinks, snacks, bread & bakery, and bakery & sweets.
