Oscar Mercado (born December 16, 1994) is a Colombian born professional baseball outfielder and shortstop for the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
Career
Mercado was born in Cartagena, Colombia, and moved to Tampa, Florida, when he was seven years old. He attended Gaither High School.[1] The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the second round, with the 57th overall selection, of the 2013 MLB draft. He signed with the Cardinals, receiving a $1.5 million signing bonus.[2][3][4] In 2016, he played for the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League, where he switched from playing shortstop to outfielder.[5] He posted a .215 batting average along with 33 stolen bases.
Mercado played for the Colombian national baseball team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. He began the 2017 season with the Springfield Cardinals of the Class AA Texas League.[6]
