Oren Moverman (born July 4, 1966) is an Israeli-American film director, screenwriter, producer, and former journalist based in New York City.
Life and career
Moverman was born in Israel. He has written screenplays for films such as Jesus' Son, Married Life and I'm Not There.[1]
The Messenger, Moverman's first film as a director, co-written with Alessandro Camon and starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson and Samantha Morton, premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay award and the Peace Film award at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival in 2009.[2]
Moverman collaborated with Harrelson again in his 2011 second directorial film Rampart, which was co-written with James Ellroy.[3]
Moverman has reportedly been in negotiations with Universal Studios to re-write and direct the studio's planned Kurt Cobain biopic,[4] titled This Is Gonna Suck.[5] Originally scripted by David Benioff, and partially based on the biography Heavier Than Heaven by Charles R. Cross, the film will be executive produced by Courtney Love.[6]
In July 2016 it was announced that Moverman would serve as a producer for the upcoming independent film Wildlife, directed by Paul Dano.[7]
He is a graduate of Brooklyn College.
