Gold Edition

One of a Kind is the second solo release of South Korean singer-songwriter and rapper G-Dragon, leader of Big Bang. The mini-album was released on September 15 digitally, and on September 18 physically.[1] On August 25, G-Dragon released the music video for the song "One of a Kind". However the song was not released as a single as it served as a way to introduce the album and concept to the public.[2] On September 1, G-Dragon released his first single "That XX". "Crayon" served as the lead single off the album, which contains a total of seven songs all written or co-written, and co-composed by G-Dragon himself.[1]

Upon release, the album was an immediate success in South Korea.[3] It placed first on the Billboard World Album Chart and entered the Billboard 200 Chart at 161 for the week.[4] As of January 2014, the album has sold over 252,728 copies, making it the highest selling album by a Korean soloist since the release of his debut album Heartbreaker in 2009.

Release and promotion

G-Dragon live-streamed a special countdown video to commemorate the release of the EP through Naver's Line TV, with guests Lydia Paek, Taeyang, producer Choice37, and rapper-producer Tablo of Epik High.[5]

Originally, the song "Without You" had a featuring first credited as "? from YG New Girl Group", when it was first announced that YG was starting a new girl group. Almost four years after the EP was released, the featuring vocals was revealed to be Rosé from said new girl group, Black Pink.[6]

G-Dragon announced the One of a Kind World Tour in support of the EP on January 14, 2013. The tour began on March 30 in Seoul, and concluded on September 1, 2013.

Commercial performance

The album charted at number one on Gaon Album Chart and sold 171,512 copies in September, and by the end of the year the EP had sold 204,326 copies.

With only one day of sales, the songs combined sold over 1 million digital copies,[7] on the second week the songs sold 1.7 million copies.[8]

As of August 2016, the album and its songs has sold over 8.2 million copies.
