The 'Gifted Education Centre was established in 1995 as the George Parkyn National Centre for Gifted Education to provide services to intellectually gifted children in New Zealand. At the start of 2008 it changed its name from the George Parkyn Centre and in 2014 it merged with another organisation, Gifted Kids, thus establishing a new organisation, the New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education. Services offered by the Gifted Education Centre merged with those offered by Gifted Kids at that time. In 2017 the Trust which ran the Gifted Education Centre was wound up.
