History

Started in 1877 as a life insurance group by the Knights of Pythias, it became American Central Life Insurance Company in 1899.

1904 – American Central Life Insurance Company establishes its Reinsurance Division, which as of 2015 is the oldest life reinsurance company in the U.S.

1930 – Knights of Pythias separate insurance program, creating United Mutual Life Insurance Company Inc.

1936 – American Central and United Mutual merge to form American United Life Insurance Company (AUL)

1957 – American United Life Insurance Company starts posting puns and funny sayings on a signboard in downtown Indianapolis

1982 – OneAmerica moves into OneAmerica Tower, the tallest building in Indianapolis at that time

1994 – The State Life Insurance Company joins AUL

1998 – Pioneer Mutual Life Insurance Company joins AUL/State Life

2000 – AUL reorganizes to form American United Mutual Insurance Holding Company and OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc.

2010 – OneAmerica purchases McCready and Keene, Inc.

2014 – OneAmerica purchases City National Bank's retirement services division

2015 – OneAmerica to purchase Bank of Montreal's BMO Retirement Services.
