History
The Oakland Activities Association was formed in 1994 with schools from a collection of leagues. A total of 22 schools from the G.O.A.L. (Greater Oakland Activities League), Metro Suburban Activities Association and the Southeastern Michigan Association; plus one school each from the Suburban Athletic Conference and Saginaw Valley League, joined together to form a more geographically-centered league.[1]
Four more schools came over from the Macomb-Oakland Athletic Conference in 1995 and the league has seen a revolving door of schools since then, with three Farmington schools coming on board in 2001 while four schools have since merged to form two larger schools, three schools have since closed and another four schools have left for the Macomb Area Conference and Flint Metro League. In 2010, Oxford came into the league. [2]
In 2006, Mondero High School closed and merged with Kimball High School to create Royal Oak High School. In 2009, Pontiac Northern High School closed and merged with Pontiac Central High School to create Pontiac High School. In 2013, Lahser High School closed and merged with Andover High School to create Bloomfield Hills High School. In 2016, Southfield-Lathrup High School closed and merged with Southfield High School to create Southfield Senior High School for the Arts and Technology.
