Oakfield High School and College is a special school based in Hindley, Wigan.[1] The most recent Ofsted inspection rated the school as "Outstanding"[2].
The school opened in September 2006 following the amalgamation of five special schools in the borough. The school philosphy is based around their motto "Learning today for our tomorrow".
Oakfield High School and College and Landgate School, Bryn are federated through The Aspire Federation. [3]
Building History
While the school has operated at the Long Lane site under the title Oakfield title since 1st September 2006, the building was not officially "opened" till 5th July 2010 by Mcfly lead Guitarist Danny Jones.
Since then the school has had many redevelopments including the extension of the Sixth Form College in July 2012, the building of the Discovery Centre and expansion of the sports facility extension in 2014. Oakfield will extend further in August 2017 following the completion of their new building. The name of which is still under consultation. For now some staff have titled this "Aspire Towers" until a suitable name is agreed upon.
The first brick of the new build was laid on Friday 26th May 2017.
