About

Founded in 1995, OFM is a leading furniture manufacturer and distributor with headquarters in Holly Springs, N.C. with distribution operations in California, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Washington state. For over twenty years, it has provided affordable, quality furniture through a dealer network serving a variety of markets including home and hospitality, government offices and businesses, and health care and educational facilities, offering the latest concepts and designs in the furniture industry.

Working with manufacturers in Mexico, Taiwan and China, OFM designs furniture to meet the highest industry standards which are sold through a variety of retailers, mail-order catalogs, and online dealers including Staples, Wayfair, Overstock, and National Business Furniture.[1] The company was acquired by HNI Corporation in February of 2016[2]

History

After working for years as a furniture manufacturing sales representative, Abel Zalcberg founded his own company in 1995. Using personal savings, he and his wife Barbara set up an office in their home, printed up a catalog and sold chairs from vendors Abel had worked with in the past. The company offered faster delivery times by keeping less inventory in stock.[3]

Today, OFM provides furniture to general businesses and government offices, as well as schools and hospitals. The company’s products are also sold through catalogs and online dealers, including Officefurniture.com, Furnitureonline.com and Officedepot.com. It has 45 full-time employees.[4] The Zalcbergs' son, Blake, serves as the company's chief executive officer.[5]

The company's headquarters encompasses a 124,000-square-foot (11,500 m2) office and warehouse in Holly Springs, North Carolina. OFM contracts with manufacturers in Mexico, Taiwan, and China to design furniture and products.

In 2010, it installed a solar photovoltaic system on the roof of its main headquarters in Holly Springs,[6] making it carbon-neutral and a certified New Renewable Energy Facility.[7] The company secured a loan covering 100 percent of the cost of a 250-kilowatt solar-panel system for its rooftop.[8] It later expanded the system and now has a total of 2,084 solar panels for a total 500-kilowatt system, making it one of the largest renewable energy projects among small businesses in the state.[9]

The power generated through the solar panels is sold to Progress Energy.[10]
