Om Prakash Sharma (politician)
Om Prakash Sharma is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He was born in the Indian state of Bihar in 1953. He is one of three MLAs from the BJP in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Election 2015 , He was the only BJP MLA who was able to retain his seat from 2013 Election from Vishwasnagar constituency beating his nearest candidate, Atul Gupta, by a margin of 15,000 votes.
Controversy
On 24 November 2015 he was suspended from the assembly for making a statement for the AAP MLA for Chandni Chowk Alka Lamba causing distress in the entire assembly and subsequently a huge protest was taken at his residential place by the AAP Women Wing demanding his apology , Alka Lamba as well demanded for the revocation of his membership for the remaining tenure of the House.[1]
On 17 February 2016, Sharma and his supporters were accused of thrashing a man while shouting anti-Pakistani slogans.[2]
On 9 January 2017, Sharma's home in Karkarduma in east Delhi was burgled, days after Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's home located around the same area was broken into.[3] A computer, LCD TV, DVRs from CCTV cameras, and files kept there were stolen from Sharma's home, the same items that were stolen in the Sisodia burglary.
On 12 April 2017, Sharma contended in the Delhi High Court that his suspension from 2015 had expired and should be allowed to attend assembly sessions.[4]
