Not to Disappear
Not to Disappear is the second album by the British indie folk band Daughter, released on 15 January 2016 by 4AD.[1] In anticipation of the album, a music video for the promotional single "Doing the Right Thing" was released on 30 September 2015.[2] A music video for the single "Numbers" followed in November 2015.
Reception
Not to Disappear received generally positive reviews from critics. Allmusic remarked the band's spontaneaous recording process wrote that the album avoided monotony while relying on dark tones and delay.[4] The reviewer for The A.V. Club found similarities to The Cure, PJ Harvey and Beach House but noted that Daughter was using these influences to enter "into new territory".[5] Awarding 2.5 out of 5 stars, the Rolling Stone mentioned singer Tonra's monotonous voice that was complimented by the minimal instrumentation.[9] In a joint review, the Sonic Seducer staff found that the album combined elements of bands like London Grammar and Massive Attack in a dynamic sound that mixed indie pop, dark folk and shoegazing.[10]
