The 1968–69 Northern Premier League was the inaugural season of the Northern Premier League, a regional football league in Northern England, and the northern areas of the Midlands. The season began on 10 August 1969 and concluded on 10 May 1970.[1]

Promotion and relegation
In the first season of the Northern Premier League none of the teams were put forward for election to the Football League nor automatically promoted. Conversely, none of the sides were relegated, but Ashington, Chorley and Worksop Town left the League at the end of the season, replaced by newly admitted:
- Stafford Rangers promoted from Cheshire County League
- Great Harwood promoted from Lancashire Combination
- Matlock Town promoted from Midland Football League
