Norra Real ("Northern Real") is an upper-secondary school, located on Roslagsgatan 1 in Stockholm, Sweden. The school was officially founded in 1890, but was already mentioned early into the 14th century and is the oldest upper-secondary school in Stockholm. Norra Real is today one of the better schools in Stockholm according to several studies made by the Swedish school inspection.
Building
The architect Per Emanuel Werming drew the new school building which was being finished in 1888-1891. Apart from the main building which has five floors, the school also has a house for gymnastics, and a parking garage.
Sculpture
On Norra real's entrance floor, a duplicate of the sculpture 'Flores and Banzeflor' is standing. Originally the sculpture was made in bronze by the olympic prize-winner Stig Blomberg, but the replica consists of plaster. It depicts one boy and one girl, each riding a horse in the nude, and this has become a central place for the traffic of the school. For instance one could hear "Let's meet up at the horses (as they are commonly known) in five minutes".
Student government
The student government of Northern Real (Norra Reals Elevkår) is an organization founded in 1999 with the purpose of "[...] maing it possible for members in the student body to create themselves a more rewarding schooling" as well as keeping the students' social, academical and union interests. The student government arrange a whole variety of appreciated events such as the winter prom, association days and much more. Furthermore they are a co-organizer of the schoolfight "Läroverksfejden" (English: The feud of the grammar schools). This is an academically stressed competition between "The four schools", Norra Real, Kungsholmen, Östra Real and Södra latin. In 2016 however, the executive of Östra Real informed that they wouldn't participate.
