Nord Anglia International School, New York, formerly World Class Learning Academy, New York (also known as WCLA,[1] WCLANY or WCLA, NY[1]), is a for-profit[2] international school in New York. The school was established in 2011 and currently educates students who represent over 50 nations.[3][4] It is a member of the Nord Anglia Education family of over 40 premium international schools,[5] which provide a global education for over 34,000 students between the ages of 2 and 18 years worldwide.
NAIS, New York is a co-educational, non-selective school. Students applying are not required to sit an entrance exam. However, when it is unclear if a child has the appropriate level of English, additional learning needs, or if it is unclear which year the child should enter then the appropriate assessments are administered.[6]
The school is located in the East Village area of lower Manhattan in New York City.[7]
History
Nord Anglia Education's schools are located in North America, Middle East, Asia and Europe. The organisation was founded in 1972 and its schools are currently home to over 36,000 students between the ages of 2 and 18 years. Schools of Nord Anglia Education follow the English National Curriculum which is adapted to fit the needs and culture of different regions. They also offer the International Baccalaureate, IGCSEs and in some places, A Levels, the French Baccalaureate and the Swiss Matura.
Curriculum
Nord Anglia International School, New York offers the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).[2] The Primary School and Early Years Programme, which includes Ages 2 to Year 6 (Pre-K-Grade 5), offers the International Primary Curriculum (IPC),[3] which is a curriculum for 3-12 year olds which is used by schools in more than 90 countries around the world, and adopts best practices from the British National Curriculum (England and Wales), which begins from age zero.
Starting September 2016, Nord Anglia International School will offer the Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Curriclulum, designed in collaboration with Juilliard School, which teaches music through iconic works and regular connections with practicing musicians.
Notable figures
The school works in partnership with local artists, known as 'Artists in Residence',[8] some of whom work from the campus and work directly with the students.
The school offers numerous opportunities to participate in activities designed to be fun, challenging, inspiring and motivating. Parents are actively involved in the school community, with class parents holding many events and social gatherings over the course of the year.
