Nimali Liyanarachchi (born 19 September 1989 in Sooriyawewa, Sri Lanka) is a Sri Lankan 800 m runner.[1] She has won several medals.[2] Nimali holds the Sri Lankan national record in the 800 event.[3] She was the top 800m runner in Asia in July 2017. She came to the finishing line second but the winning athlete was disqualified after Liyanarachchi argued that she had been unfairly jostled in the sprint for the line.[4]
She won the gold at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships in 2017 and a Bronze in the Asian Athletics Championships in 2015. She also won the gold at the South Asian Games in 2016. [5] [6]
