Plot

Charlie Laird's life turns upside down when his father remarries after his mother's death. His father relocates to his wife's house, The Kessog Palace. Charlie is upset and starts to have nightmares after moving to the new home. He starts to hate his stepmother and feels that she is an evil woman who tries to separate his family from him. Added to this is that Charlie's younger brother Jack refers to her as Mom. The main character in his nightmares, a witch tells him that she will visit him at night. Charlie tries to block his room with cardboard boxes, even though he knows that won't stop a witch. She arrives there and takes a boy with her when Charlie refuses to go with her, who is presumed to be Jack, Charlie's brother. Charlie jumps into a portal and reaches the Netherworld. There he meets Meduso, a gorgon. He meets all his friends there and understands that the head of Netherworld is the Principal of his school. He helps everyone conquer their fears and faces his own fear - Charlotte(a witch in disguise poses as her). He defeats the witch and goes to face his real nightmare his mom. She bids him goodbye and becomes a dream. The story ends with Charlie realizing that Charlotte is not so bad after all.
