Saint Nicholas of Lesvos was martyred by the Turks on the island of Lesvos on 9 April 1463 AD, along with St. Raphael. He was a deacon at the monastery near the village of Thermi. St Nicholas died of heart failure when he was being tortured by the Turks. The saint appeared to people in dreams and visions starting 1959 and let to the excavation. Many diseases have been reported cured by the intercession of the saint. He was a native of Thessalonica.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
