New Zealand Outdoors Party

The New Zealand Outdoors Party is a registered political party in New Zealand. The party is aimed at protecting the environment and New Zealand's "outdoors heritage".[1] It was launched in September 2015 by Alan Simmons.[1] In its December 2016 newsletter, the party stated it was "pushing hard" to get to 500 members so that it could register.[2] In a letter to Rural News, Simmons claimed the party "has possibly more members than some parties already in Parliament", though did not give figures.[3]

Simmons was summoned to court in late 2015 charged with lighting a fire without a permit in a fire-restricted area, but charges were dropped after a friend stated he started the fire.[4] Simmons believes the charges were likely brought against him due to his criticism of the Department of Conservation's policies.[5]

On 22 July 2017 the party applied for registration with the Electoral Commission.[6] Registration was granted on 11 August 2017. [7]
