Nelson Wikes Monfort, Jr. (born 12 March 1953 in Boulogne-Billancourt, Hauts-de-Seine) is a television host and sports journalist on France Televisions.

TV and radio career

He commented on the figure skating and interviewed athletes just after their competition. Among his most famous interviews are that of Martina Navratilova in 1987,[1] Carl Lewis, Bill Clinton at Roland Garros in 2001 and sprinter Michael Johnson during the Olympic Games in Atlanta.

He presented Le Journal des Sports during the 1980s-1990s on FR3, then the program Les Mélodies de Nelson on Radio Classique on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00am to 1:00pm and wrote articles in Le Figaro.

In September 2008, he became a columnist of le Club Sports on Europe 1, alongside Alexandre Delpérier.

He also presents television game shows: Jeux sans frontières in 1999 with Fabienne Égal, Une semaine chrono in 2006 with Pierre Mathieu and Intervilles with Philippe Candeloro.[2]

In June 2009, he was criticized by the Society of Journalists of France Télévisions for having received a Mickey Mouse on his show Tennis Club and therefore having promoted Disneyland.[3]

Personal life

He is the son of American Colonel Nelson Wikes Monfort, Sr. and was a student at the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris.

He has two children named Isaure and Victoria, with his wife Dominique.

In February 2009, he claimed he saw a UFO.[4]
