"My Man" is a song recorded by American singer Tamar Braxton taken from her upcoming fifth studio album. The song was released as the lead single on April 27, 2017, by Tamartian Land Records and eOne Music Entertainment.[1][2] The song was written by Tamar Braxton, Tiyon "TC" Christian and Cory Rooney

Background and promotion

On April 6, 2017, it was announced Braxton had left Epic Records and signed a new deal with eOne Music for a $1 million deal.[3] Braxton debuted "My Man" during an episode of Braxton Family Values on April 27, 2017, where she played the track to sisters Trina, Traci, Towanda and mother Evelyn Braxton. The song was inspired by her parents relationship before and after their divorce.[4] The track was released the same day via iTunes under label Tamartian Land Records.[2][1] Braxton took to her Instagram account with a statement about the song "So... here is the thing this is NOT about what I'm selling cause it's NEVER been about that for me!! It's about what we ALL have been through and how we all can/ have/ WILL overcome things. No matter what side of the coin you are on,take your responsibility in it. No one is REALLY guilty of love.. but we are ALL guilty of HURT!! Tonight on #BFV 9pm on @wetv free yourself and see the FULL story of how this record came to life...this is also so close to my heart for SO many reasons!!"[5]

Critical reception

The song was met with a positive from critics. Rap-Up stated "Nearly one year after leaving The Real, Tamar Braxton unleashes a heart-wrenching new track, My Man."[6]

Chart performance

"My Man" debuted at number twenty-nine on the Adult R&B Songs chart week beginning May 13, 2017.[7] In its second and third week the song charted at numbers twenty-six and twenty-one respectively.[8][9] In its fourth and fifth week the song charted at numbers fifteen and sixteen.[10][11] In its sixth and seventh week the song charted at numbers fourteen and eleven.[12][13] In its eighth and ninth week the song peaked at number ten.[14][15] The song charted at number nine in its tenth and eleventh week.[16][17] In its twelfth week the song peaked at number seven week beginning July 29, 2017.[18]

On June 17, 2017, "My Man" debuted at number forty-eight on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.[19] In its second week the song charted at number thirty-two.[20] In its third week the song peaked at number twenty-five on the week beginning July 3, 2017.[21]
