Museo Nacional (TransMilenio)

The simple station Museo Nacional is part of the mass transit system of Bogota,TransMilenio inaugurated in the year 2000.

Location

It is located in the International Center of the city, on the Carrera Séptima between streets 28 and 32. It is acceded to it by means of a Pedestrian mall located on Calle 28.

Serves the demand of the districts San Diego, San Martín and its environs.

In its surroundings is the National Museum (to which it bears its name), the Tequendama International Center, the Polycarpa Salavarrieta College, the Colegio Mayor of Cundinamarca, the Francisco José de Caldas District University, the Ibis Bogotá Museum and Central Park Bavaria. In addition several banks and companies have their headquarters in the buildings of the area.

History

This station is part of Phase III of TransMilenio, which began to be built in late 2009. Its inauguration took place on October 19, 2013.

Features

This station is the first completely underground station of the TransMilenio system and also of any of the systems of public transport of Colombia. It was decided to do it this way since, being built in the place where the Tenth Race and the Seventh Race converge, the space is reduced and to make it in surface would have reduced space Destined for pedestrians and for private vehicles. However, according to Fernando Sanclemente, manager of TransMilenio, by the end of December 2013 it is proposed to give continuity to the trunk until the Av.Calle 100 through hybrid buses with doors on both sides that will replace in its entirety the traditional transportation that currently circulates by The important avenue.
