Musa Bihi Abdi (Somali: Muuse Bixi Cabdi, Arabic: موسى بيهي عبدي) (born c.1948s) is a Somali politician and former military officer. During the 1970s, he served as a pilot in the Somali Air Force under the Siad Barre administration. In 2010, Bihi was appointed the Chairman of the ruling Peace, Unity, and Development Party (Kulmiye) in the self-declared Republic of Somaliland. in November 2015, Bihi was selected as the party's Presidential Candidate at the 5th central committee convention. [1] [2] Muse Bihi is fluent in English, Arabic and Russian.
Who is Musa Bihi ABdi?
Musa Behi Abdi is a Somaliland politician and former high ranking military officer. Musa Behi went to Hargeisa and Amoud Schools for his primary and secondary education respectively. As one of the top achievers in his year’s GCC exams in the country, he was among a group of high achievers selected to go to the former USSR to study aeronautics in “Gagarin Air Force Academy”. Upon successful completion, he became a fighter pilot for the then Somali Air Force. He quickly rose through the ranks and was rewarded with another scholarship, this time in the US’s West Point Academy where he earned his second Degree.
In 2010, Mr Bihi obtained another Masters Degree in Conflict Resolution from the faculty of Peace and Conflict Studies of the University of Hargeisa.
In 1985, he left the Somali army and joined the revolutionary Somali National Movement (SNM) that successfully ousted the Somali dictator’s regime after a long armed struggle.
After the rebirth of Somaliland, Col. Muse Behi Abdi played a vital role in the reconciliation process of Somaliland clans in Burao, Berbera, Sheekh and Borama.
In 1993, Muse Behi served as Minister of Interior and National Security in late President M I Egal’s government.
In 2010, Mr Musa Behi became the chairman of Somaliland’s Kulmiye Party and in 2015, he was elected in the Party Congress as its presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections of Nov. 2017.
Aged 68, Muse Behi is exuberant and rigorous man who often conducts pep talks with the people of Somaliland. With his profound knowledge of the people of Somaliland’s ample experience and their geographical setting.
