Mundlapati Ramanadha Rao was an Indian nationalist, social worker and freedom fighter and one of the popular leaders from Andhra Pradesh.
Introduction
Mr. Rao was born in Muktyala, Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh on 22 April in Brahmin community.He spent his childhood like any other child in an orthodox family.When he was young he was fascinated by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and dedicated his life to the service of the country.
Political career
Mr. Rao was fascinated by the Gandhiji's ideology of non-violence and he got involved in the struggle for Indian independence. He entered the khadi movement and spent six months in Sabarmati Ashram with Gandhi at the age of 26.
He worked for the Indian National Congress along with his coevals like Lal Bahadur Shastri (second Prime Minister of India), V.V. Giri (fourth President of India), Uma Shankar Dikshit (Governor of West Bengal and Karnataka).
He worked for rural development after independence. Apart from this he focused on Penuganchiprolu Mandal in Krishna District along with his companions like Muktyala Raja aka Vasireddy Ramagopalakrishna Maheswara Prasad, Famous Engineer Padma Bhushan Kanuri Lakshmana Rao(served as a Minister for Irrigation and Power in the Union Government), former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao and Tanguturi Anjaiah (former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh), Kakani Venkata Ratnam (ex-Minister)He dedicated his life for upliftment of SC, ST and minorities by encouraging them in all walks of life.
Positions Held
With the public support he was elected as Society President unanimously for three decades (from 1955 to 1986 around).
He also kept his efforts for the construction of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam and Pulichintala Project along with his friend Muktyala Raja.
For Mundlapadu, his ancestral village and where he spent his life, he ensured the availability of facilities for education, transport, water, and electricity.
