Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar (Urdu: ممتاز احمد تارڑ) is a Pakistani politician who is the current Minister for Human Rights, in office since August 2017. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
Political career
He ran for the seat of National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-108 (Mandi Bahauddin-I) in Pakistani general election, 1988 but was unsuccessful.[1]
He was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-108 (Mandi Bahauddin-I) in Pakistani general election, 1990.[1]
He ran for the seat of National Assembly as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-108 (Mandi Bahauddin-I) in Pakistani general election, 1993 but was unsuccessful.[1]
He was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-108 (Mandi Bahauddin-I) in Pakistani general election, 1997.[1]
IN Pakistani general election, 2002, he supported a candidate of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal and therefore didn't ran for the seat of National Assembly.[1]
In Pakistani general election, 2008, he supported an independent candidate Muhammad Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhary and therefore didn't ran for the seat of National Assembly.[2]
He ran for the seat of National Assembly as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-108 (Mandi Bahauddin-I) in Pakistani general election, 2013 but was unsuccessful.[3]
He was elected as a member of National Assembly on a ticket of Pakistan Muslim League (N) from NA-108 (Mandi Bahauddin-I) in by-elections held in June 2015[4][5][6][7][8] after the seat fell vacant following the the disqualification of Muhammad Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhary due to fake degree case.[9]
Following the election of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as Prime Minister of Pakistan in August 2017, Tarar was offered the cabinet portfolio of Ministry of Science and Technology, however he declined it.[10] Later, he was inducted into the cabinet of Abbasi as Minister for Human Rights with the status of a federal minister.[11][12]
