Mount Auburn is an unincorporated community in Jackson Township, Shelby County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.[3]
History
Mount Auburn was laid out and platted in 1837.[4] An old variant name of the community was called Black Hawk.[5]
A post office was established under the name Black Hawk in 1838, was renamed to Mount Auburn in 1844, and operated until it was discontinued in 1905.[6]
Mount Auburn once contained a high school which was in operation by at least 1884 and was discontinued at an unknown date.[7]
Geography
Mount Auburn is located at 39°23′33″N 85°53′37″W / 39.39250°N 85.89361°W, at the geographical center of Jackson Township, twelve miles southwest of Shelbyville, and five miles northeast of Edinburgh in Johnson County.
