Morkhoon

Morkhoon also Mourkhun or Moorkhun is a small village on the Karakoram Highway, beside the Hunza River the eighth village from Gulmit towards the Pak-China border at the Khunjerab Pass in Gojal in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, and about 180 km upriver from Gilgit.

Population

The village has a population of about 800 people mostly belonging from one of the few major families or tribes natively called "Qutors". The tribes or families include the Mirza Mohammed Qutor, Posh Qutor and Xik Qutor.

Moorkhun in wakhi means MOOR-RAIN AND KHUN-HOUSE; HOUSE OF RAIN. Its a beautiful village with beautiful people. Moorkhun has a community built school built by the community.

Religion

The People are Wakhani or Xik and speak the Wakhi or Xik-wor Language. Religiously they are Shia Ismaili Nizari Muslims, a sect of Shia Islam.
