Morgan McCormick (born February 21, 1981, in Guelph, Ontario)[1] is a former Canadian ice hockey player.
Playing career
McCormick was drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs in the second round (26th overall) of the 1998 OHL draft.[2] He was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 1999 NHL Draft,[1] and was a member of the team's training camp rosters from 1999 to 2001, but was subsequently released to complete the season with his OHL team.[3][4]
After two seasons with the Frontenacs, the right winger was acquired by the Guelph Storm early in the 1999-2000 season.[5] He served as co-captain on the Storm for the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons.[6] In his final season, he recorded a career-high 44 points and 148 penalty minutes in 56 games played.[1] He was named OHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2002, after scoring three goals and four assists in three games, leading the storm to a 3-0-0-0 record.[7] That year, the Storm were eliminated from the Memorial Cup tournament by the Victoriaville Tigres.[5] Following the 2001-02 season, McCormick was named the Storm's Co-MVP, along with fellow team captain Kevin Dallman.[5] McCormick earned the Storm's Co-Operators Community Involvement Award and the Leadership Award in each of his final two seasons with the team.[5]
After his OHL career, McCormick played for three seasons with the Saint Mary's Huskies, being named the team's captain and winning the Scholastic Excellence Award for three consecutive years.[5] During his final season with the Huskies, McCormick was one of the Maritime finalists to interview for a Rhodes Scholarship.[8]
